Challenge

Joris Ide’s internal sales team had long relied on a custom-built SAP quoting tool. While functional, it was never designed for speed or simplicity. With thousands of product combinations and a growing B2C offering, the company needed a more intuitive, visual solution that could support both seasoned sales reps and first-time customers.

"The goal was for users to assemble a building - focusing on roofing, facades, and accessories - in just a few clicks," explains Bernard Bossuyt, ICT Manager at Joris Ide. This would enable even someone with minimal product knowledge, such as a new employee or a customer, to generate a quote."

  • Complex product range, slow quoting: The SAP-based tool required deep product knowledge and manual calculations, slowing down the sales process and increasing the risk of errors.
  • Need for visual configuration: With roofing, facades, and accessories all in play, Joris Ide needed a visual, user-friendly interface that could handle complex combinations.

Solution

Together with delaware, Joris Ide selected Hive CPQ, a powerful platform that combines visual configuration, automation, and seamless SAP integration. The result? A scalable, intuitive platform that empowers both internal teams and customers to generate accurate quotes in minutes.

Bernard explains, "We typically develop such applications internally using Fiori, SAP’s design system. However, after comparing the cost-benefit ratio and time-to-deploy, we concluded that bringing in an expert was the better option. After seeing the user interface and built-in capabilities of Hive CPQ, the decision was clear."

  • Visual product configuration: Hive CPQ’s 3D interface allows users to configure buildings with real-time visuals, reducing the need for technical knowledge.

  • Automation and accuracy: The tool automatically generates bills of materials and calculates quantities, minimizing errors and reducing back-and-forth.

  • Seamless integration with SAP S/4HANA: Quotes and configurations flow directly into Joris Ide’s SAP system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the sales process.

Since launching the public configurator for private customers, we’ve seen a steady rise in price requests, even without an active marketing campaign.

What did
we do?

Empowered internal teams

The configurator was first used internally for six months, giving sales teams a chance to test and trust the tool. Once validated, it was launched publicly via Joris Ide's B2B platform and website.

Self-service quoting

Customers can now configure products directly on the website, generating quotes without needing to contact sales. This shift has improved customer experience and freed up internal resources.

Built for growth

The Hive CPQ platform is easy to expand. New products and variants can be added with minimal effort, and the configurator is already being adapted for other business units and product lines.

Results

Since launching the configurator, Joris Ide has seen a steady rise in quote requests, even without an active marketing campaign. Internal sales teams now work faster, with fewer errors, and customers enjoy a smoother, more transparent experience.

"Hive CPQ goes beyond a traditional visual product configurator, which typically focuses on appearance only; the configurator is an extension of our sales platform," says Bernard.

With plans to expand the configurator to include solar panel accessories, complex roof types, and additional product lines, Joris Ide is building on a strong digital foundation - one that’s ready for the future.

Joris Ide & delaware

Joris Ide is a leading European manufacturer of steel building materials, with 19 production sites and over 425,000 tons of steel output annually. Their collaboration with delaware spans multiple digital initiatives, including the successful rollout of Hive CPQ.

“This was a true partnership,” says Simon Depuydt, SAP Customer Experience Lead at delaware. “We worked closely with Joris Ide’s digital, marketing, and sales teams to ensure the configurator delivered on every requirement.”

“The collaboration went smoothly,” Bernard adds. “The team was in near-daily contact – essential when developing a graphical user interface with numerous variants, colors, and details. Overall, the collaboration went well: both project execution and deliverables met expectations."
