The delaware Benefit Concert - They rocked our world!

Oct 17, 2018

Last Saturday night, on October 13th, more than 300 people came together in the ArtCube in Ghent to listen to live music and dance the night away. All while raising money for a good cause! The ArtCube’s industrial-style, red brick walls provided the perfect backdrop for the concert. In total, more than 40 musicians, some 60 helping hands and a core team of 12 party planners made sure it was an unforgettable night.

At delaware, we care. Our dream is to be a company that lasts for 200 years, and one of the best ways to achieve this, is by taking care of our employees and the world we all live in. In that spirit, the WeCare initiative was introduced at delaware: a platform that supports charities, carried by the delaware community.

Sadly, almost everyone knows someone who’s been affected by cancer. In 2014, the Data & Analytics team suffered a major blow when they lost one of their beloved colleagues to cancer. Determined to honor and remember their colleague, and in the spirit of WeCare, the Data & Analytics team suggested organizing a benefit concert. The first edition of the WeCare Benefit Concert took place in the Ghelamco Arena. All proceeds from that evening went to Kom op tegen Kanker and Beautiful After Breast Cancer, two charities that focus on the research, prevention and treatment of (breast) cancer.

This year, delaware is proud to announce that, once more, the WeCare Benefit Concert brought together colleagues, friends and families who wanted to contribute. It was amazing to see how the #peopleofdelaware joined forces and took it upon themselves to create another unforgettable evening, living and breathing the delaware values.

As many musically gifted delaware employees wanted to give it their all for the good cause, the line-up was incredibly diverse. The concert started with French chansons and was followed by an impressive group of strings, who even performed a Happy Birthday song for delaware’s 15th birthday. Our house robot Pepper was a wonderful conductor of the strings and Big Band. Next up was a five-headed pop-rock band who brought cover songs; the audience showed great enthusiasm and loved every bit.

For the cherry on top, Johannes Verschaeve, front man of the Van Jets, spoiled all attendees rotten with his performance and warmed up the crowd to part two of the evening: the afterparty! A special act was performed by two delaware partners, who took over the turntable in true La Casa de Papel style, dressed up in red overalls and Dalí masks. After the special act, our in-house delaware DJs seamlessly mixed one song into the other and kept everybody dancing until the early hours.

A wonderful evening filled with beautiful music and good company sounds great, but what about the food and drinks? Our sponsor Haacht Brewery made sure everyone’s thirst was quenched, while Poco Loco, Roger & Roger, Manna Foods, ‘t Graantje, Vache Bleue, Astra Sweets and Libeert catered to the hungry dancers’ needs. Other costs were covered by Vanbreda and the WeCare platform.

Special thanks go to our sponsors, all the artistes, everyone who volunteered to help, the entire WeCare core team, guided by Ann Hendrix and Matthias De Wannemaeker, and of course, to all those present who made it another great Benefit Concert.
