Legal Counsel

other, internal, some experience, internal role
Belgium

Small but mighty – that’s the delaware Legal team! We play a crucial role in connecting the dots between the business, our partners and the dedicated Sales team. We’re quite busy bees: our duties range from corporate governance and risk mitigation to contract reviews, raising awareness and dealing with IP and data protection matters.

To continue to keep pace with the ever-growing workload, we will need some help. Ideally, as the Legal team we’d like to take a more proactive approach, especially when it comes to reviewing commercial contracts, supporting the business and further optimizing our contract templates. Are you that essential extra pair of hands we’re looking for?

What will you be doing?

Let’s have a closer look at your to-do list:

  • You will mainly focus on improving our collaboration with the business. You’ll create or further optimize our contract templates and carry out thorough legal reviews and negotiating of a broad range of contracts.
  • You will manage customer and supplier legal risks, as well as consistently anticipate, analyze and propose mitigation strategies for potential risks;
  • You will provide legal advice to the business on a broad range of legal topics and handle legal complaints.
  • Corporate governance is on your to-do list as well: you’ll be involved in partner matters by supporting the corporate governance in Belgium and Luxembourg.
  • We want to be more closely involved in contract discussions, so you’ll act as a sparring partner who regularly aligns with colleagues and thinks of new ways to streamline our team’s activities, including informing your colleagues about legal developments.
  • To be able to work in harmony with the non-legal departments, you won’t be afraid to pick up the phone and defend our viewpoints in a clear and concise manner.
  • Depending on your personal interests, you can also take a deep dive into other topics, like corporate law, GDPR or optimization projects such as the implementation of legal tech solutions.

delaware has offices in Ghent, Antwerp, Wavre, Kortrijk and Lummen. As a Legal Counsel, you will mainly be working at the Kortrijk offices, where the rest of the Legal team is based. We’ll make sure to save you a seat! You may also be required to travel to our Ghent or Antwerp offices, especially for meetings with the business or our partners.

Is there a match?

  • Do you have a Master of Laws degree? We're looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience as an in-house counsel or in a law firm. Any legal experience in the IT sector or an additional training in business or economic law is a plus.
  • Is B2B commercial law your passion? And are you familiar with the ins and outs of the business world?
  • A special interest or specialization in IP/IT law, GDPR and corporate law is highly valued as well.
  • As our legal department faces many challenges, there is plenty of room for initiative. Do you take ownership of your work and set the right priorities?
