GDPR has been the talk of the town for some time now – and rightly so. GDPR is the General Data Protection Regulation, a European Union-wide set of rules that will be enforceable within the EU as of May 25, 2018. It requires organizations to rethink their omnichannel strategies in view of processing personal data in a fair manner. In the meantime it will be key to process personal data while ensuring IT security (confidentiality, integrity, availability).

The rightful processing of personal data should be documented and needs to take into account the increased rights of the data subjects (such as the right to be forgotten, right to rectify, right to data portability, ….).

Non-compliancy can be fined – worst case - up to €20 million or 4 % of the total worldwide annual turnover of the preceding financial year, whichever is higher.

These new developments now require companies to assess their current corporate structure, their processing activities, IT systems, documentation, contracts …. It will be essential to set up a realistic plan before May 25, 2018 in order to meet the requirements as set forth in the GDPR, in time and based upon clear management decisions.

Curious about GDPR?

Forward-thinking service providers have already begun preparing their ecosystems for GDPR. This includes delaware and SAP. As you may or may not know, we recently organized a ‘sneak peek’ webinar on GDPR and SAP Hybris – which already contains CRM features to be compliant with GDPR. Whether you attended the seminar and want to check it out again, or whether you didn’t and you are curious about GDPR: the webinar is available in its entirety.Author: Sven Arnauts.
