Agoria Solar Team achieves their first World Solar Challenge title

As Innovation Partner, delaware is proud to announce that the Agoria Solar Team was the first team to cross the finish line of the Bridgestone World Solar challenge after a thrilling race. It’s the first time for the Belgian team to win the coveted gold medal.

The team of Belgian students has worked on the solar car, the BluePoint, for over 15 months. On Sunday 13 October, the race kicked off in Darwin (Australia) with the objective of arriving in Adelaide six days and 3.021 kilometers later.

It turned out to be a very tight race. On the fifth race day, the Belgian team managed to close in on their predecessor the Dutch Vattenfall Solar Team, decreasing the gap of 40 minutes to just 2 minutes and 27 seconds. With only 250 kilometers to go, the Agoria Solar Team charged into the lead. Later that day, the team crossed the finish line in Adelaide as the winner of this year’s solar challenge. They are the first Belgian team to claim this title in their team’s history.

The team’s ultimate objective was to win the race and as Innovation Partner, delaware is very proud that they achieved this thanks to all their hard work. Collaborating with this enthusiastic group of students is very rewarding and we already look forward to the next steps in our journey together, in the lead up to the race in Chile next year. The goal is to optimize the car’s results even more with delaware’s artificial intelligence know-how. But first, the Agoria Solar Team and all their supporters will celebrate this victory!
