We’re proud to announce that, together with delaware, Flemish water services company De Watergroep is now a SAP Innovation Awards Finalist. The SAP Innovation Awards team selected this entry out of over 230 submissions as one of the most compelling examples of innovation. It’s the sixth year of this annual awards program that aims to discover and showcase the innovations that are achieved by using SAP products and technologies. The SAP Innovation Awards celebration event will take place at SAPPHIRE NOW 2019, May 7-9 in Orlando, Florida.

AI-powered algorithm for smart leak detection

De Watergroep provides clean tap water to clients through a 34,000-kilometer water main network. Around 20% of the water that is transported, is not consumed by end users. While this includes water used for pipe maintenance and to extinguish fires, the majority of the water is lost through leakages. The solution to significantly reduce this amount? An AI-powered system that enables quick detection and intervention.

The new solution combines historical data, data analytics and key algorithms to quickly detect anomalies in the waterflow. Leaks are now discovered up to two weeks faster, after which the right people are notified at the appropriate time. They take the necessary steps to reduce water waste and end the leakage, which has immediate benefits, both economically and ecologically.
