IT services company delaware has secured a major contract to migrate all of Honda Motor Europe Logistics’ legacy systems to an integrated SAP platform.

Honda Motor Europe Logistics, whose main logistics hub is based in Ghent, will completely overhaul its supply chain in preparation for the future of the electric automotive industry.

The project will span five years and involve over 100 delaware experts.

Project origine

Kortrijk, March 4, 2025 – As the automotive industry undergoes massive transformation, facing numerous challenges across Europe, IT services provider delaware has landed a landmark contract. Over the next five years, delaware will migrate all of Honda Motor Europe Logistics’ fragmented legacy systems—currently spread across multiple silos—into a unified SAP environment. With its main European logistics hub located in Ghent, Honda is taking a decisive step toward a future-ready supply chain, built to support the shift to electric vehicles.

Honda’s Ghent site serves as the primary logistics hub for Europe, handling the full supply chain for spare parts. Each year, more than a million products—cars, motorcycles, outboard engines, lawn mowers, and more—pass through this supply chain, which is set to undergo a significant transformation.

The spare parts supply chain manages everything from supplier orders to customer delivery for all Honda products across Europe. This ambitious initiative will require sustained effort, involving more than 100 delaware professionals at peak activity. It will also impact the daily operations of approximately 1,000 Honda employees and affect around 7,000 European retail partners.

A unified platform for a changing industry

“Our legacy systems are currently siloed. Spare parts, car accessories, motorcycle accessories, industrial engines, OEM components—each product family has its own processes. To build a future-proof supply chain, we decided to start from scratch and harmonize all systems within Honda Motor Europe Logistics,” explains Erik Chabot, Logistics Director at Honda Motor Europe Logistics.

This not only drives efficiency by streamlining systems and processes but is also vital to unlock new potential and prepare for the future of the automotive industry.

“Our industry is undergoing radical change. Take the after-sales market, for example—it has focused on combustion engines for over a century but is now shifting toward software solutions for electric vehicles. Sales processes and the role of dealerships are also being completely redefined. If we don’t adapt our systems and logistics processes now, we risk falling behind,” Chabot adds.

A long-term strategic partners!

Honda was looking for a partner who could provide not only strategic thinking but also a robust and controlled implementation. Their choice: delaware.

“The nine-month pre-sales phase was a rigorous process, but it gave us deep insight into all of Honda’s operations,” says Jonathan de Brouwer, Partner at delaware. “Our extensive automotive experience—now one of our core business sectors—is a major asset, both in working with OEMs and across the entire supply chain.”

“We’re focused on building strategic long-term partnerships, aiming to turn clients into ambassadors and foster collaboration among them. We’re proud to welcome such a prestigious name as Honda Motor Europe Logistics to our client portfolio. The scale and timeline of this project are ambitious—so are we.”

“At Honda, we were looking for a partner with deep knowledge and understanding of our complex business, who also shares our European organizational culture and long-term vision. The passion and motivation of delaware’s automotive team, along with their industry references, were decisive factors,” confirms Erik Chabot. “It’s refreshing to work with a partner that truly speaks our language.”

“Passion and communication are key,” adds Glenn Huybrechts, Program Manager at delaware. “We already have over 50 consultants working on-site, coordinating closely with Honda contacts every day. Our automotive team identifies critical processes and understands both the short- and long-term challenges Honda faces. The mutual understanding is exceptional and leads to a very constructive, respectful collaboration.”

A detailed roadmap

The overall program covers six core areas, each with a clearly defined roadmap:

  • Logistics (units, spare parts, accessories)

  • After-sales (sales of spare parts and accessories)

  • Procurement and planning

  • Administration and customs (inventory management and import duties)

  • Master data and data migration

  • System architecture and security

“The first four workstreams are already in the conceptual design phase. The next steps include drafting detailed plans and rolling out the new processes across all sites. It’s like open-heart surgery—everything has to keep running smoothly while we work,” concludes Nico Claeys, Program Manager at Honda Motor Europe Logistics.
