When the end of February is approaching, you know it’s time to visit the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. This grand event attracts more than 100 000 visitors every year! This is definitely the place to be if you want to know all about the new cool stuff that is available. When you attend this kind of conference, you exactly feel where the world will go to in the coming months. Yes. Months! In the world of IT months is equal to years if you talk about changes.
Here are some remarkable facts that caught my attention during the 4 days I spent at the congress.
With ‘Windows Continuum’ it is clear that Microsoft wants to replace the desktop device with any mobile device. If you have the ability to run your operating system on any device, it gives you a lot of possibilities. Wouldn’t it be nice to completely replace your desktop and laptop by a smartphone?
During the MWC, I wasn’t surprised to see new features and functionalities on smartphones. But one that is worthwhile mentioning here, is that the new Samsung Galaxy S7 is waterproof. The new device has some adjustments that you do not see at first sight, you only notice them when you get a closer look. Let’s only hope that the battery of the new S7 will be better than the S6. The performance of the device is guaranteed with the Exynos chip.
Everywhere you looked at the MWC, you could see AR and VR examples. We even got the chance to get the full submarine experience, as you can spot in the picture.
At this point, you see the gaming functionality and the fun factor of the VR, but in a later stadium you can convert this into some valuable business content applications.
Who isn’t dreaming about an Audi R8 totally connected!? I know I am! The dashboard is changed into a totally virtual dashboard that can be changed based on your specific needs.
