With their bright red-and-white logo, Bristol stores are a familiar sight across Belgium and the Netherlands. For over 100 years now, the company has been offering affordable fashion, footwear, and accessories for the entire family. Apart from its more than 200 physical outlets, Bristol also runs an extensive online shopping platform. To cater to the needs of modern consumers and keep up with technological advancements, a comprehensive upgrade was needed. And who better to handle that than delaware’s retail experts?

  • Client: Bristol, a family-owned business offering affordable fashion, shoes and accessories in Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • Challenge: Keeping up with modern customer expectations and the latest technological advances, while also ensuring a future-proof IT landscape.
  • Solution: SAP Integration Suite: a comprehensive integration platform that facilitates the seamless connection of Bristol’s various applications and systems – including its upgraded webshop.

The challenge: transforming a need into an opportunity

Calling the project at Bristol a ‘webshop upgrade’, however, would be selling it short. In fact, it was more about finding a strategic sweet spot between filling a real need and seizing the moment to create new opportunities. “For one, the new system had to integrate seamlessly with our existing SAP ECC system and our other applications, like our POS and CRM,” explains IT project manager Liazed Bougoufa. “At the same time, we are preparing the switch to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud. So, the implementation had to happen in a way that minimizes the impact of future changes on the IT landscape.”

But wait, there was more. “We fully realized that it would be possible to connect the systems in a point-to-point manner,” Liazed continues. “But we also knew that this would limit us going forward. Our goal therefore was to establish a dynamic solution that could grow along with our changing needs, and that everyone in the company would embrace. The overarching objective, of course, is to increase customer satisfaction and build a more sustainable and future-proof company.”

The solution: seamless, strategic integration

To achieve this, Bristol decided to work with delaware to implement the standard edition of the SAP Integration Suite. The suite allows the creation of a compatible IT architecture with APIs to secure internal applications, and support process flows through cloud integration. By taking this approach, Bristol could implement its new webshop and loyalty program, while also ensuring that its systems are future-proof.

SAP Integration Suite: standard edition

The standard edition of the SAP Integration suite is a comprehensive integration platform that facilitates the seamless connection of various applications and systems within an organization. In this way, it enables businesses to streamline operations, improve data flow, and enhance overall productivity. The suite combines various integration capabilities into a single, unified platform – including data, process, and application integration, and more.

Key features and benefits include:

  • ScalabilityThe ability to adjust integration requirements as needed, e.g. handling increasing data volumes or rising complexity.
  • Improved efficiency: Streamlining processes and data flows to improve operational efficiency, reduce manual work, and minimize the risk of errors.
  • Future-proof: Instant access to the latest integration technologies and industry standards, thanks to SAP’s robust infrastructure and continuous updates.
  • Pre-built integration content: Accelerate projects and reduce time and costs with pre-existing templates for popular applications and systems and reduce development time and costs.
  • Monitoring and analytics: Track the performance of integrations, identify potential issues, gain insights into system behavior and data flow.
  • Lifecycle management: Manage the entire lifecycle of integrations, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • And much, much more.

“In the case of Bristol, we took full advantage of the sub applications SAP API Management and Cloud Integration,” explains Illya Kuys, Solution Lead of SAP Integration at delaware. “Elsewhere, we augmented the monitoring and analytics capabilities with delaware standards. And of course, security and connectivity were at the highest possible level.”

The proposed IT solution, while important, was not the only determining factor for the success of the Bristol project. “Like any retail company, Bristol also faces the challenges of rising customer expectations in terms of products, prices and seamless experiences across all channels,” says Liazed. “So what we needed more than anything was a partner with extensive knowledge and experience in the retail sector, who could guide and advise us. This was where delaware really displayed its value to us: they pushed us to think outside of the box and take an innovative approach. At the same time, they were more than willing to roll up their sleeves and help our team with the practical execution.”

“Creating great customer experiences is only possible when you combine an innovative technological approach with a new way of working,” adds Illya. “We’re passionate about supporting retail companies like Bristol in this transformation and help secure their future. In these and other projects, our focus lies squarely on creating a seamless synergy between advanced technologies and efficient business processes, enabling our clients to thrive in this rapidly evolving environment.”

The result: a break with the past

While a short-term, point-to-point solution could have been implemented, Bristol and Liazed bravely decided to take a more strategic approach. The solution was designed to grow with the company and offer the necessary support during high-traffic events, like the sales season.

“In the past we struggled with the integration with logistics, which resulted in occasional stock breaches,” says Liazed. “Thanks to delaware, that doesn’t happen anymore. In no time, they managed to set up an order management system that caters to our needs and that ensures an amazing customer experience. Moreover, their practical approach was a complete cultural fit with our own no-nonsense way of handling these projects.”
