Getting to know our juniors: the travel edition

jan. 03, 2017

70 graduates joined our company last SeptemberAfter a couple of weeks’ intense training they have now all joined their respective teams and started their careers in consulting. But who are all these people you might wonder? Good question, but it’s not up to me to answer that. Rather than giving you a small bio on each of them, allow me to let them introduce themselves with some pictures and a brief story. For this first article we challenged them to provide us with some insights on their latest travels!

This picture was taken last summer in magnificent Thailand. I really value the moments where I can sit back and take in the world around me. No matter the location I am at, it gives me a great sense of pleasure and inner calm.

Last big trip of mine was in California, because I dream big and I’m not afraid to go far
Obviously, I like to have fun!
Sunny California... because I’m a warm and welcoming person

(the) AX team is the best team going and it’s like being part of the Hollywood elite (sorry SAP) ;)
Never satisfied, I’m always pushing out my boundaries.
Generous, I like to share lots of trips with my friends and this last trip was with my 2 best friends. For me, it is important to spend time with the people I love.
Exchange of culture and knowledge is always my priority
Let’s get the party started within Delaware
Everywhere I am.

It may seem a bit contradictory, but although I’m quite a calm person I just can’t sit still. That’s what I like about hiking. Exploring with a backpack, from one mountain hut to the next. Keeping up a good pace, far away from crowded cities. Having a good time with friends and stinking together… because of the lack of showers!

This picture is a throwback to a moment of inner peace during my adventure in China. In the summer of 2015, I spent three weeks in China for a course that I was taking at the University of Antwerp. It was definitely one of the best trips I ever took, or at least the one that impressed me the most. Every day I was completely overwhelmed by the dense crowds, the Chinese culture, the architecture and the food habits (when I came home, rice was banned for a while). I love how much I experienced and this trip still inspires me to travel the world and discover new things.

During my backpacking trip across Indonesia this summer, I did a trek to the summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726m). It was both physically and mentally the hardest thing that I have ever done but, looking back, it was one of the most beautiful experiences within anyone’s lifetime. If there is something this experience has taught me, then it is that you must strive to push yourself to your limits in everything you try to achieve. If you really want something, it is worth the effort. Others may help you to overcome your limits, but they cannot motivate you to reach your goal. Rely on others for support and guidance, but never to tell you which mountain to climb.

This photo was taken during a recent trip to Norway last November, where I was on a train from Oslo to Bergen. I love exploring new places, and Norway was a country I had not visited before. This 7-hour train journey from Oslo to Bergen was a trip from a bigger city, focused on city life, to a smaller one, focused more on the nature surrounding it. As I like to have a lot of variety in my life, this difference between both cities really moved me. It was a captivating trip!

This picture was taken on the coast in Spain, in a small village called Cap de Vol. I have been spending my summer holidays there since I was a little boy. For me, it the perfect place to relax and recharge my batteries for the rest of the year.

This picture was taken in the first week of my solo travels through Vietnam and Cambodia. During my stay I met lots of amazing people and saw many beautiful places. For example, in Hanoi, I met an Israeli guy who’d just bought a bike, named ‘the red lady’ (for no particular reason ;)). A couple of weeks later we met again in Cambodia. I spent five weeks visiting these two countries and experienced how time flies when you are backpacking.

This picture was taken on my trip to Fuerteventura. I went there with a couple of friends last summer. We had a great time together, exploring, relaxing and enjoying great food and drink. Spending quality time with family and friends is very important to me, so now, I am looking forward to getting to know the Delaware family.

These three pictures were taken in Florence, Italy. Last summer my girlfriend and I went on a road trip through Tuscany. Besides exploring the big cities such as Sienna, Florence, Pisa and Volterra we also discovered multiple Chianti towns. This trip perfectly illustrates what I love most: traveling, exploring foreign cultures and living as a foodie.

This is a picture from my last skiing trip, enjoying the sun after a 10-hour bus ride. I really love to ski but because of my fear of heights, it remains a challenge every time. Working at Delaware has been a similar experience so far, really challenging from time to time but also a great adventure with a lot of wonderful colleagues.

This photo is taken in Ninh Binh, Vietnam. Just before I started to work at Delaware Consulting I went on a backpacking trip for 3 months with a friend. It was a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision, but it turned out to be an amazing adventure. We discovered southeast Asia and got to know the real meaning of ‘culture shock’. I could talk for hours about those three months, but to sum it up: magnificent scenery, great food and extremely friendly people!
